Lil B "Based Jam"
It’s been a month since Lil B’s last mixtape, a fairly long lull. Based Jam features a nice midsection of sentimental tracks like “Championship Game”—You got locked up for some shit you ain’t do/ But your jailhouse thugs, they look like you—and
“Hip Hops Alive,” over Tupac’s “Changes,” a track you’d imagine to be
one of the more formative in the baby days of based. Keeping the
middle-school-dance theme, on “Will Power” he goes magnificently over
Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby.” It’s not all sappy throwbacks
though, and there are a number of heavily-saturated sex tracks in the
burgeoning Stick! Dig! tradition, most gruffly on “Erybody Kno”
and hilariously on “Thug Life.” Pretty solid release. He’ll be on tour
next month; check tour dates below, along with a few music videos for the tape.
