Nacia Simms "Black History" (Video)

Nacia Simms, a 6th grader at Arundel Elementary/Middle School, utilizes his talent and passion for music to demonstrate his knowledge and awareness of black historical events. In his first debut single titled “Black History", Nacia skillfully educated the world on notable African Americans and their contribution to society. With support from his music teacher Mr. Hill, of the “Bring the Noise” education/art program and videographer Brian Hardy of Brians Eye Film, Nacia, along with several other classmates, was granted the opportunity to bring his music to life in this creative and animated music video. Nacia Simms is one of many more students to come. Realizing the positive impact that media/art have on his students, Mr. Hill plans to offer this exceptional opportunity to other students. Through the use of various artistic measures, each student will be encouraged to apply their talents and innate abilities to overcome educational and social/emotional barriers.

The message i received from this is that sometimes we have to step back and let the youth be leaders in their own way.  Ofcourse, we're older, we are the teachers we've obtained the knowledge already.. But it's just some things in life that we can't teach them.. Sometime they have to learn from one another. They connect to one another.. It's easier for them to translate the literature. Sometimes you have to let the child be the messenger.  In this video Nacia Simms taught his fellow classmates about Black History in the format of hiphop.  Over Meek Mill's "House Party" instrumental, Nacia delivered everything he knew about the great names of Black History Month.  This video is very powerful. Would love to see more of this.
