Killer Mike Eloquently Destroys Arguments That Hip-Hop Fosters Violence (Video)

Appearing on Real Time with Bill Maher, Mike was asked what he would say to those who claim Hip-Hop causes violence. After an extremely curt answer of “you’re stupid,” Render proceeded to explain how Hip-Hop was historically rooted in non-violence. He detailed the history of the early days in the late 60s and early 70s where the culture was used as a means to stop gang fighting and actively steer youth toward a more constructive way of life. The Run the Jewels co-member also spoke passionately about Hip-Hop’s overall positive effect on the economy, having created countless jobs over the decades. Mike closed out by challenging critics to focus on some of the real issues that cause violence, before scapegoating Hip-Hop.
Mike’s portion begins at the 9:40 mark in the video, but the entire clip is worth watching.
