Are NFL Stars Above League Rules & Above The Law

This past friday 49ers Star Defensive Player Aldon Smith was arrested for DUI & rumored to have possession of marijuana. Smith was arrested friday when his vehicle was found up against up a tree with his foot on the accelerator. Now this was not Smith's first run in with DUI's, back in 2012 he was arrested in Florida for DUI & also was a defendant in two civil lawsuits from a party in his home where a shooting was involved. With the NFL policy on alcohol related offenses states "Discipline for a second or subsequent offense is likely to be a suspension, the duration of which may escalate repeat offenses". Under the same NFL Policy Tampa Bay Receiver Vincent Jackson was suspended 3 games. Aldon Smith will be on the field today against the Indianapolis Colts. Aldon Smith is currently under a 4-year, 14.3 million dollar contract.

News was broken across the NFL today on why Broncos star defensive end Von Miller suspension went from 4 all of sudden 6 games. Miller who was suspended for failing the NFL Drug Test was conspiring with a Drug Test employee to swap samples. Miller's attempt to conspire with the urine collector in Miami was first reported by ESPN. Miller was initially suspended after he provided a diluted urine sample after an offseason practice. Because he was in the second phase of the NFL's drug program due to a failed test in 2011, the diluted sample, which came after Miller spilled his first attempt at providing a sample, triggered a four-game suspension. When it was discovered he also tried to avoid a different test, the appeal process was halted and negotiations began as Miller's camp tried to avoid a one-year ban. The six-game suspension he received came as the result of negotiations between the NFL, the NFL Players Association and Miller's representatives. The employee from Drug Free Sports has been fired. He will be eligible to play in Denver's game at the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 20. Miller is under a 4-year, 21 million dollar contract.

Another black eye overall today for the NFL with million dollar players & superstar clearly believing their above the law in both cases for Aldon Smith & Von Miller. NFL players are often looked up to as role models by kids who are fans & ones who inspire to be pro athletes. It seems all in all Players like Smith & Miller haven't grown up or matured themselves. For Smith & the 49ers franchise his production on the field outweighs his issues & lack of maturity off the field to make adult choices & handle adult responsibilities .As many fans know this is not the first time or occasion for a great player with issues still playing regardless of off-field antics or events. Now with Von Miller the ability to make millions seemed to make him think it gives him a million ways to think he's above the law & buck the system so to say. It's an eye-opener that some of these athletes who make millions are learning to be great players but arent quite learning how to be a better man. Some neglect support groups & programs the NFL offers & others believe they're unstoppable on & off the field.
